Monochromatic

Hello and morning blogcreatures,

What is your favorite color?  I like more than just one. Grey, olive green, turqoise and pink. You can use any color you like to play with us for the new challenge over at Stampotique Designers challenge. The new theme is: monochromatic.

Today for my creation, I used sepia tones to create a mini card. Really love the effect of sepia or black and white. The stamp is from Stampotique Originals called: Happy Rat, Dejected cat. If you want to play along with us, you are welcome to share your creation over at SDC.

Below is a funny picture shoot of me and my nephew. He's 7... I'm 24 , can you tell?
( My nephew - he loves taking pictures....But I can not be the model for others....*laugh*)

Include a heart

Hello blogcreatures,

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's day with your partner. In Romania we have our own  Valentine's day but it's a bit different. Our tradtion it's called : Dragobete, celebrated on February, the 24th.

The day is particularly known as "the day when the birds are betrothed". It is around this time that the birds begin to build their nests and mate. On this day, considered locally the first day of spring, boys and girls gather vernal flowers and sing together. Maidens used to collect the snow that still lies on the ground in many villages and then melt it, using the water in magic potions throughout the rest of the year. Those who take part in Dragobete customs are supposed to be protected from illness, especially fevers, for the rest of the year. If the weather allows, girls and boys pick snowdrops or other early spring plants for the person they are courting. In Romania, Dragobete is known as a day for lovers, rather like Valentine's Day. ( Wikipedia)
Today over at Lia Stampz we have a new challenge called: Include a heart. That's so easy! You must check our design team and you also must come and play along with us! The cute image is from Lia Stampz called Whistle.
Below you can find a quick tutorial on how to make a vellum envelope. This is really easy and much better than using a scoring board. You must work really gently with the vellum paper.

Homemade heart candles for Valentine's day

Hello blogcreatures,

I'm not into Valentine's day, but this is a great excuse to make homemade heart candles. I love candles even if my dad makes fun of me and says that we aren't at the cemetery. If you want to make your own candles, then please read the written tutorial.

To make homemade candles you will need:
  • old candles
  • silicone mold
  • twine
  • essential oil
  • pan
  • water
  • stove
  • scissors
  • tweezers
I used two old candles: white and pink, but you can use any candle you have.
Fill a large pan with about 3 inches of water. Heat to a simmer. Place your candle jar inside the pan and let it melt completely. If your candle doesn't come with the jar , use a thick jar and put the candle inside. To make your own wicks, use the twine and dip it into the hot wax, using tweezers. Repeat the process two or three times. If you want your candles to smell good, add some essential oil. Pour the hot wax into your mold and add the wick. Let it set for a few hours.

Quick tip: If you want to make ombre candles , let the first layer cool down for about 30 minutes and then add the second layer and repeat the process.
